Rank Number One In Google

Getting a #1 rank in Google is not impossible; don't let anyone ever tell you that.

When searching Google you will often comes across partially related sites but rarely any that are exactly related to your search term. So why then would you bother ranking for low search terms?

Because there is a perception that having your site in the #1 spot in Google means that your site is an authority on that particular subject. As any experienced user knows, this is most often not the case, but perception is reality.

A lot of people seem to think that because your site is at the #1 spot you must have an authority on that search term. The experienced will know that is not true but with a lot of things it can become a reality. You may find that some of the keywords you get ranked on may be terms that are rarely searched for but you never know who might search just that term and how they may benefit you. A trend with searches is that they initially search with fairly broad terms for example 'mobile phones ' and as they continue their search for information they refine their search terms to get related results (e.g mobile phones -> buy mobile phones -> buy unlocked mobile phones). They do this to filter out non-related sites and get better results.

The same can be used to run a good PPC campaign to generate good returns. For example it is great to get loads of hits for 'mobiles' but turnover would be a lot better if you if you had a site selling mobile phones and you were getting traffic from users searching for 'buy mobiles', thus increasing your profit. Some web studies show that user who arrive on your site through PPC tend to be short term customers who are interested in a quick deal or result and do not intend on coming back. However those that arrive through organic search engines results tend to be long time customers as they trust the sites at the top of the search results.

Usually by say the fourth or fifth time a user has searched they have narrowed down their search enough and have found what they are looking for, hopefully your product or service. Another key point is that if you are targeting a lowly searched keyword and you get indexed for that keyword Google is likely to keep you up there as there are not many other alternative and it likes to stick with the most exact in this case.
